RENEWAL
Winter 2027 Juried Exhibition
Orly Cogan, Juror
January 5-30, 2027
Opening Reception: Thursday, January 7, 6-8 pm
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: November 18, 2026, midnight EST.
Blue Mountain Gallery, located in the heart of New York City’s Chelsea art district, invites artists working in two- and three-dimensional media to submit work for its 19th juried exhibition, RENEWAL: Winter 2027 Juried Exhibition. Selected works will be exhibited in the gallery’s Chelsea space from January 5 – 30, 2027. The gallery is pleased to have Orly Cogan as juror for this year’s exhibition. An internationally exhibited contemporary artist represented by Robert Mann Gallery in New York City and Tracey Morgan Gallery in Asheville, NC, Cogan brings a distinctive perspective to this year’s exhibition.
RENEWAL is the theme of this New Year’s guest-juried group exhibition:
A theme of new beginnings, transformation, and the possibility of change. Consider what renewal might look like: shedding an old skin, a new season, a repaired or reinvented object, a fresh perspective, or a moment of personal awakening. Works might explore ideas of growth, resilience, reinvention, healing, emergence, or simply the feeling of turning a page and starting anew.
All juried exhibitions are accompanied by a fully illustrated catalog and promoted to collectors, critics, media, artists, and art lovers through the gallery’s website, social media, press releases, and major art listings. Over its 45-year history, Blue Mountain Gallery exhibitions have been reviewed in Art in America, The New York Times, The New Republic, and Hyperallergic, among other leading publications.
JUROR Orly Cogan is a New York–based artist who has been at the forefront of the contemporary fiber art movement since the late 1990s, helping expand the medium’s place within contemporary art through her distinctive style and use of vintage textiles, hand-stitched embroidery, and fiber mixed media. Her work honors the labor and artistic traditions of the past while recontextualizing them through a contemporary feminist lens. Cogan’s figurative narratives merge mythology and surrealism with pop-cultural wit, psychological nuance, and a keen awareness of the complexities of gender and personal identity.
Trained as a painter at The Cooper Union and the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), Cogan has continually expanded her practice across painting, drawing, photography, and textile-based mixed media, developing a distinctive visual language over more than two decades. She is represented by Robert Mann Gallery in New York City for her photo-fiber work and by Tracey Morgan Gallery in Asheville, NC, for her mixed-media work.
She has been included in numerous national and international museum exhibitions, including The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, CT; The Museum of Arts & Design, NY; The Jewish Museum, NY; Riverside Museum, CA; The Hudson River Museum, NY; The Textile Museum of Toronto, Canada (with Judy Chicago); The Brattleboro Museum, VT; San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles, CA; Woodson Art Museum, WI; Fresno Metropolitan Museum, CA; Musée International des Arts Modestes, Sète, France; Museum Rijswijk, The Netherlands; and the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design, Oslo, among others. Her work is held in public and private collections, and she has curated several group exhibitions in New York City.
Cogan’s work has been published in several books and museum catalogues. Her work has been reviewed and featured in The New York Times, Art in America, New American Paintings, Artforum, the Chicago Sun-Times, the Los Angeles Times, Art News, Art Press Magazine, W Magazine, Elle, Fiber Arts, Surface Design, Chronogram, Time Out New York, The American Art Collector, Art Spiel, The Textile Curator, and numerous other publications.
More information about Cogan can be found at www.orlycogan.com and on Instagram at @orlycogan.
