Barbara Segal works in New York and in Springs, on the east end of Long Island, where the changing light and seasons inspire much of her work. She integrates her feelings for luminosity, for the movement in the natural world and for the materials she uses -- in short, spirit and matter. A born New Yorker, Segal’s art education began at the High School of Music & Art and continued at Bard College. She was graduated from Barnard College cum laude with a BA in art history. Segal studied painting
and drawing at the New York Studio School from 1990 to 1993. Her early work included ceramics, mainly raku. Segal has had four one-person shows and participated in
invitational group exhibitions from New York to Hawaii.
