BLUE MOUNTAIN GALLERY is proud to present Suzanne Lacke: Autobiography in Paint, a captivating and intimate retrospective that spans over fifty years of the artist’s extraordinary career. This comprehensive exhibition showcases Suzanne Lacke’s paintings and drawings, offering a rare opportunity to explore the evolution of her style, themes, and personal narratives.

Suzanne Lacke, who has focused her artistic practice on painting, drawing, and printmaking, explores a wide range of subjects, including the human form, people in modern settings, landscapes, portraits, still-lifes, and interiors. Her diverse body of work reflects her keen eye for detail, as well as her ability to capture the subtleties of both the external world and the internal human experience. In addition to her practice as an artist, Lacke was an art educator for over 30 years, imparting her passion and knowledge to generations of students.

Suzanne Lacke’s artistic journey began during her college years at the University of Pittsburgh, where she studied art history and studio art.  She continued at the Art Students League in New York City in the 1970s studying with renowned artists Marshall Glasier, Sydney Simon and Gabriel Laderman. In 1979, she relocated to Berkeley, California, where she earned an MFA from the University of California in 1988, working primarily with Bay Area Figurative artist Joan Brown. Her diverse education and mentorship have deeply influenced her creative process and the development of her distinctive artistic voice.

"Art has saved my life, made me open, aware, loving, compassionate and always with something to help me grow and develop. It was not enough for me to skim the surface of life; I needed to get down in, make discoveries and be transformed by it. The art practice did this for me and continues to do so. Drawing and painting have been a constant for me." — Suzanne Lacke
