Rose Weinstock: Additional Architectural Paintings

May 21 – June 15, 2013

Artist Reception  Thurs. May 23, 5-8 pm

Rose Weinstock’s exhibition, Additional Architectural Paintings, returns to a theme that has interested her for many years. The paintings are carefully observed depictions of quotidian subjects transformed into unique images that express the artist’s emotional reaction to the subject. Although painted in a straightforward manner, with attention to detail, there is considerable concern for formal issues.   The compositions are carefully constructed and emphasize abstract relationships. Douglas Anderson: Recent Work

Douglas Anderson: Recent Work

December 26 – January 26 2013

Opening reception: December 27, 5-8pm

Blue Mountain Gallery announces an exhibition of recent works by Douglas Anderson. The artist returns to the gallery for his first solo show since 2006 with a series of abstract images on paper. Drawing his inspiration from the masters of calligraphy of China and Japan, who sometimes describe their approaches as “walking” or “running” styles, Anderson, in these new paintings, has created whole universes with no more than black ink or pencil. He is attracted to the metaphor walking/running and thinks it describes perfectly his attempts to draw at the speed of thought, which is sometimes slow and ponderous and sometimes faster than the hand can record.

Jenny Toth: Capture and Release

Jenny Toth : Capture and Release

October 30 – November 29, 2012

Reception POSTPONED TO SATURDAY, November 10, 3-6pm

In this solo show, Toth further explores her passionate empathy for animals and their intimate connection to humans. The work is loosely based around the theme of being in some way captured or contained–by a leash, fence, rope, or dense foliage–contrasted with imagery of shattered constraints, animals set loose, breaking through to freedom. Always grounded in painting from direct observation, Toth continues to weave together self-portraiture with this thematic core, often with an understated humor.
