Jane Beckwith


Jane Beckwith is a printmaker, painter and photographer and art educator. Her art practice is focused on the ecology of agriculture and other environmental concerns. She holds an MFA in Painting and Art History, Pratt Institute, Brooklyn NY 1970 and an M.Ed. from Teachers College, Columbia University, NYC. As Associate Professor of Art and Associate Chair of the Art Department at St. Joseph’s College, she has taught studio art and art history courses since 2001.

She works between Brooklyn, New York and Italy, mainly Venice and Florence.

Recent Exhibitions
In July, 2018,  she presented a solo show of etchings and photographs at Scuola Internazionale di Grafica (Venice) featured an artist’s book on the Canticle of the Sun (St. Francis of Assisi), renowned as an early environmentalist; and a display of recycled water barrels used for irrigation on farms with texts quoting ancient Greek and Roman advice to farmers by writers including Virgil, Cato the Elder and De Rerum Natura, a first-century didactic poem by poet and philosopher, Lucretius.

Between April 2017 and October 2018 she took part in a traveling exhibit of scrolls sponsored by the Venice Calligraphy and design organization, Venetia Incipt Scriptorum (VIS). Volumen et Rotulus was shown in Venice, Rome and Starzano, (GO), Italy, and Vienna Austria. Scroll title: (we are) The Sea Monsters.

From fall, 9/1/2018 through 8/31/2019 she has participated in group shows, affiliated with or in The Blue Mountain Gallery, which she joined in 2018.
