Judith Evans

Judy Evans paints in the Realist tradition. She responds intently to the beauty of the land and the even greater beauty of the human face of any age. Her paintings are in numerous national and international collections both public and private. She has trained as a fine artist and a scenic artist painting for movies, television, Broadway and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Her paintings have been shown in NY at the National Arts Club, the Salmagundi Club and the Sherry French Gallery as well as other prominent national venues including the Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, Ohio, the Arkansas Arts Center, Little Rock, Arkansas, the Katonah Museum of Art, Katonah, NY, and many others.

She uses light in a theatrical way to illuminate her closely observed landscapes and insightful portraits. In her paintings strong composition provides the structure and dramatic lighting provides the spirit. She paints landscapes of the Northeast, New Orleans, Colorado, the Scottish Highlands and most recently Venice, Italy. Her portraits in either oil or pastel are created in close collaboration with the sitter and are studies in both character and personality.

To quote Chelsea Art Galleries Worldwide:  “If you feel as though you are transported up and out of the city and tossed into a wilderness landscape from around the world, you are probably looking at a Judy Evans painting. Evans focuses her energy on capturing the “spirit of place.” Her realist paintings embody not only the physical description of a site, but its felt presence. Evans’ work is about the moments when certain forces of nature synchronize and she is compelled to stop time and preserve it and to share it and to say, ‘I was here. This is how it felt.’”
