Blue Mountain Gallery, founded in 1980, is located in the heart of New York City’s Chelsea art district, and is sponsoring its fourth Annual Juried Exhibition in 2017. The gallery’s exhibitions are frequently reviewed in both the New York and national press. Addition to our invitationals, our annual juried shows are part of the gallery’s outreach to the artist community. Blue Mountain Gallery is pleased to have Priscilla Vail Caldwell as a juror for its fourth Juried Exhibition. She is an independent curator, advisor, writer and former director at DC Moore Gallery.

ABOUT THE JUROR: Priscilla Vail Caldwell is an independent curator, advisor, writer and former Director at DC Moore Gallery in Chelsea. Having written extensively on modern and contemporary American painting and sculpture her contributions include catalogs and essays for both gallery and museum publications. Caldwell has curated hundreds of solo and group exhibitions including Claire Sherman: Sempervirens, (DC Moore, 2014); Duane Michals: Empty New York, (DC Moore, 2014); Woods, Lovely, Dark and Deep, (DC Moore, 2013); Paved Paradise (DC Moore, 2012); Kimber Smith: The Winged Life, (Graham Gallery, 2011); Joe Fyfe: Wood/Cloth/Color (Graham Gallery, 2011). Formerly a partner at Graham Gallery, New York, Caldwell serves on the board at Sculpture Center in Long Island City and is a member of the Parents Executive Committee at Oberlin College. Caldwell received a B.A. in Art History from Northwestern University and an M.A. in Art History from Williams College. She is a recipient of a Kress Foundation Grant.

ELIGIBILITY Open to U.S. resident artists at least 18 years old. Eligible media include oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolors, prints, drawings and mixed in any medium. Not eligible: sculpture, video, installation, photography, giclees, and digital art. All artwork must be original. Two-dimensional work may not be exceed 32” x 32”, including frame. The size given for works should be the unframed size. Height must be given before width regardless of orientation. The gallery will not correct dimension errors. Entry form must be filled out completely. Failure to follow the instructions may result in the nullification of your entry. Gallery reserves the right to reject inaccurately represented work.

ACCEPTANCE Accepted work may be refused if it does not conform to the entry image & no substitutions will be allowed. All work must remain in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition.

PRESENTATION Work must be suitably framed (or sides cleanly finished or painted), wired ready for hanging. D-rings should be used for heavy works. Drawings, prints, watercolors and pastels must be under Plexiglas. (Glass is permissible for hand delivery.)

FEES The fee is $35 for 1-3 works. $6 for each additional work up to 6 works total. Entry fees are paid through the entry form’s PayPal link, which accepts credit cards. Fees are nonrefundable.

SUBMISSION & ENTRY REQUIREMENT Work will be juried from images submitted only through the gallery’s online submission form at: www.bluemountaingallery.org. Images must be JPEGs with minimum width/height of 500 pixels, maximum size as 3MB. Do not use spaces or special characters (!@$, etc.) in image file names. An embedded color profile is recommended for accurate color.

IMAGE LABELING: JPEG images MUST BE labeled as follows:

SALES The gallery will take no commission on any work sold. Work not for sale must be marked “N.F.S.” No “P.O.R.” sales.

RECEIVING Shipped work must arrive by Thursday, December 15, 2016 in a sturdy, reusable container. Hand-delivered work must arrive on Friday, December 16, or Saturday, December 17, between 11am and 6pm (or earlier date by appointment).  Packaging must be removed from the gallery at the time of delivery. Return shipping must be prepaid through UPS’ or FedEx’ websites or with other shipper who will pick up work at the gallery. A computer-generated return label for return of work MUST be enclosed or emailed ahead of time to the gallery. NO EXCEPTIONS. Substitutions and late arriving work will not be hung.

LIABILITY All possible care will be taken with the all the artwork, but our insurance only covers work while it is in the gallery. We will not be responsible for any loss or damage to the work while in transit to or from the gallery. There are no handling fees but travel insurance is the responsibility of the artist. The payment of the entry fee will serve as your acceptance of the terms and conditions stated in this prospectus.

REMOVAL All hand delivered work must be picked up from gallery on Saturday January 28 between 6-8:30 pm or Sunday January 29 between 10am and 12pm. Works not removed on these days will be placed in storage (will be a storage charge $5 a day) and released at gallery’s convenience. Shipped works will be returned the week of February 7.

DEADLINE All applications must be submitted before midnight on October 25, 2016. Blue Mountain Gallery will make every effort to notify all applicants of juror’s decision by November 7, 2016.
